A sunset over the ocean is an unforgettable event. This picture I took in 1998 in Rarotonga just about one minute away from my backpackers hostel. If there has ever been a paradise on this earth, it surely must have been on a Pacific island! Palm trees, the sea, plenty of fruit, sunshine.......I better stop thinking about it or I will go and quit my job tomorrow.

Another sunset, this time at the shores of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown, New Zealand. The heavy clouds of a thunderstorm are looming over the mountain range of the Remarkables. Once you’ve been there you know exactly why the mountains are called The Remarkables. They are just that: remarkable. In the winter you can go skiing, in the summer they are perfect for hiking. Quite a few of the hiking tracks start close by and take you in untouched (well, almost untouched) green lands. In Maori legend there is a giant lying under the lake breathing. And really, within very short periods of time the lake level in Queenstown can rise or fall dramatically. Modern days meterologist however, perver to explain this phenomenon with different air pressure at the different ends of the lake.

No.... this is not another sunset. It's a sunrise. One of the few sunrises that I have seen (other than coming home from a night of dancing). Here we spent the night in a cave at Long Beach, New Zealand (near Dunedin) to take photos of the rising sun. A light cover of clouds turned this sunrise into a special event.

Footprints in the sand. This picture was taken not far from Dunedin, New Zealand, and reminds me of just how temporary the impact of humans sometimes is. All ist takes is a single wave and the footprints are gone.
