This beautiful dolphiun sculpture is made out of greenstone from New Zealand. I discovered it in a small craft shop in Hokitika, New Zealand. Jade is an extemely hard material and the carving of this dolphin took several weeks. Tourists are not permitted to collect raw, unhewn greenstone which can be found on the coastline of New Zealand. To the indigenous Maori people the material is of a high spiritual value and according to their belief one should even “ground” himself by touching water after touching a sculpture out of greenstone.
The shopkeeper even found a rose as background for the dolphin.
