The province Taranaki is situated in the west of the North Island. It’s most prominent feature is Mt. Taranaki, a perfectly shaped volcao cone with a snow cap on its top. There is some good hiking around the volcano and many of the tracks are quite easily accessible from the main parking area at the visitors center. For the enthusiasts there is also some climbing to get higher up the mountain.
